Hierbei bilden sich komplexe Sandwichstrukturen an der Katalysatoroberfl\u00e4che aus. Diese bestehen aus nur 10 \u2013 15 Atomlagen dicken Schichten aus AgNO<sub>3<\/sub> und darunter liegenden Ag<sub>2<\/sub>O-Schichten aus 20 \u2013 30 atomaren Monolagen.<\/p><p>Die Schichten sch\u00fctzen zum einen das darunter liegende Silber im Kern vor weiterer Oxidation. Au\u00dferdem bestimmen sie weitgehend die katalytischen Eigenschaften.
